Ack! Christmas music is something that's been totally ruined for me by working in retail.
Same here.
i've worked in retail for over 10 years, and it hasn't ruined it for me. as a matter of fact, borders had
charlie brown christmas
in heavy rotation last year, and it didn't do anything but make me realize what a masterpiece it was.
most of the time, though, the xmas music that gets played in retail places is terrible, terrible stuff. so you combat that by seeking out the really cool, off-the-beaten-path xmas music...not by forsaking holiday tunes altogether!
sheesh!

I'm with girl, if you worked retail for 10 years and you still love christmas music, then you are Kenneth from 30 Rock.

The main reason I hate Christmas music is because it's generally not that good (with the exception of "Carol of the Bells," which continues to be awesome). The overplaying in retail contexts is what pushes my mild antipathy into full-on hatred.
I don't think too much about The Pussycat Dolls one way or the other, but if all stores everywhere insisted on filling the months of November and December with constant replayings of "Dontcha", I'd be directing the same amount of fury toward those gyrating popstars as I currently do towards Christmas.

The mail seems to be exceptionally slow these days. Or maybe I'm just being exceptionally impatient about my mailorders. Either way, these are keeping my company as I wait:
Locas in Love - Saurus (LP) and tour EP (CD)
They seem to be free of Christmas music, thankfully. Even the small percentage of Christmas songs that I actually do enjoy are pretty much off-limits for me between the months of November and January.

Perhaps it got eaten by the Great Server Crash, but I did find a record from the year before:

The only Christmas carol I can listen to is "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," as performed by Bert and Ernie. And it is not good when I listen to that because I turn into a choking, sobbing, sniveling mess.
The end!

I don't think that it's triggered by Muppets; I think it's everything to do with the delivery/performance and their little Bert and Ernie voices being all sad and it's kind of a wistful song to begin with.

I am not a huge holiday music fan, what with having been put through too much forced-christmas-music performing back in my orchestra days combined with my general wariness of the holiday season (and I can't afford to run away to Istanbul this year), but I just got an awesome holiday CD. I will tell you all about it as soon as someone makes a shiny new thread. who was it who called dibs on that?

You know when they named it
Perfect From Now On,
they really meant
Perfect for This Album, Which We Will Never Top.
