did you guys know that there's a
pile of garbage twice the size of texas
floating in the middle of the pacific ocean? that it's been there since the 1950s and that 80% of it started out as garbage that was blowing around on land?
this terrifies me.

Yep! I've been reading about that in "The World Without Us". The book is making me hardcore yearn for a quiet end to Homo sapiens.

I can't help but think plastic will be vital to whatever species comes after humans grow extinct, much as oil as been for us.

Yeah, my brother was telling me all about the floating plastic floating around in the oceans. There's some website called Orion Magazine that he goes to a lot, and has terrifying stories like that. I think the title to that piece was "Polymers are Forever."

You know... considering how adept we are at removing too many fish from the sea, you'd think this wouldn't be as huge of a problem as it is.

Immediately thought of DeLillo's Underworld and made me want to reread what Nick Shay has to say about waste management, but alas I didn't bring the damn book to school with me.,

Yea, that was like last Thursday, wasn't it? I remember watching the first episode after he did that. We had a couple theories about his motives, but we'll see.

Well, Comedy Central could get in a lot of trouble if they keep airing his show and he does this.
My guess is that always-overly-cautious Democrats will keep him off the ballot, giving him a bunch of hilarious material.

He did a split screen on that episode that was hilarious, one side was candidate Stephen and the other was host Stephen, talking about what he could and couldn't do as a host and candidate.

well apparently he overestimated his home states sense of humor. i don't think he was really planning anything really big with this. i think it was just his way of satirizing the whole process. (kind of like when our high school goverment teacher ran as a write-in candidate for superintendent of education our senior year - but for comic, not instructional value) his whole campaign is 'sponsored' by Doritos - i'm not sure if it actually is or not, but he always introduces his campaign news with doritos product plugs.

Wow, I didn't know 16 people in the South Carolina Democratic Party got to choose who was going to be on the ballot. That seems totally unreasonable.

U.of Oregon Says No to RIAA
Quote
Five of the seventeen John Does accessed the content in question from double occupancy dorm rooms at the University. With regard to these Does, the University is able to identify only the room where the content was accessed and whether or not the computer used was a Macintosh or a PC ... The University cannot determine whether the content in question accessed by one occupant as opposed to another, or whether it was accessed instead by a visitor.

Thank God. The way most colleges nowadays are taking orders from the RIAA and indoctrinating everyone on the virtues of copyrights is depressing.

i'd guess she was supposed to be triplets but absorbed her fetal siblings in some sort of outlandish fashion.
EDIT: ok, the article confirms my guess, though it's just one twin, apparently.
also, how the hell does she poop?

So the screenwriters are on strike. You'd think they could come up with more creative signs. Or at least steal some.
