Advent calendars rule! My mom has this ancient one my great grandmother sewed and embroidered, a wreath with snaps on it so you snap little things to it every day. She usually got some chocolate filled thing for us to do too, but the snap wreath has endured much longer Smile

Cats, if I send you pictures of my cats and an envelope with like money concealed in a mix cd, would you make tMO and I a pair of felt cats?
I can probably do this, if you are looking for cats similar to above, though if you don't absolutely need them right now can it wait until after Christmas?

That is why the cat is so angry. It is entirely your fault.

FUZZY FELTS!!!!

http://redflax.felt.co.nz/browse/listing/14186/ON-SALE-Felt-Storybook-Fuzzy-Felt-Animal-Set-SAVE-15-for-a-limited-time

or Steiner/Waldorf inspired little stuffed animals (I could scan/copy some patterns if you want) I have another book in this series...

(I know, I'm not mixed cats, but that's what I make out of felt)

I welcome all persons with ideas about felt! As you can imagine, I am pro-Waldorf, at least when it comes to gifts. Have you seen the Froebel gifts also?

http://www.froebelgifts.com/gift1.htm

Forgot to say that if it's not too much trouble I'd love a scan, but don't worry if it's a hassle, I can always check the library. I'd love to make an advent calendar that doesn't involve chocolate, just yet.

OH MAN I did not realize clare linked to Feltcraft. IT IS REALLY GREAT. I got it when I was 12 and it changed my life, haha

There's also The Cute Book! and several more in the series with similar projects.

You can pretty much do anything with felt. It's easy to make stuffed things out of because it doesn't fray, so you can just leave the stitching on the outside.

I hate reviews that are all, 'This book is NOT about making felt, it's about making things WITH felt' and they give it a 1-star review. I am going to give Michael Bittman a 1-star review for 'How to Cook Everything' because I want to cook lizard eyeballs, a beaded coaster, and my nose, and it doesn't have a recipe for that. WTF is wrong with people.

Yeah, those are people who bought it without bothering to read anything in the description. I hate those people. (I also hate the people who do Amazon reviews like eBay feedback. It's a product review, idiot, not the place for you to air your grievances over shipping delays.)

I'm embroidering cat faces again, but I'm gonna just cut the felt out round to make ornaments.

thanks! It's less pink in person; the purple threads overpower it. The tentacles are just some vintage trim sewn up like ruffles.. I made long tentacles to go around the outside edge, too, but it seemed like too much so I didn't use them (even after accidentally losing half of them down the sink drain and remaking them all).

hey sewing peoples:  is a rotary cutter a big improvement over shears?  I was going to do this project sometime (as soon as I can pick a fabric):
http://www.designspongeonline.com/2010/06/sewing-101-roller-blinds.html
and they recommend a rotary cutter, but I don't know how much I'd actually use it...

I love my rotary cutter and mat - it really does make squaring things off and cutting straight edges incredibly easy. No matter how well I mark, if I cut with shears it just doesn't turn out straight. If you don't sew a lot, you can use them on paper projects, too, but you'll have to replace the blade more frequently.

I find rotary cutters are less precise  than shears in some cases -- with shears I can really precisely cut away a marked line, but more precise and certainly a million times faster and more convenient if I'm sliding the cutter along a ruler. I almost never use my shears anymore, in fact, because it's so rare that I need that degree of precision.

thanks--good to know.  and I do already have several cutting mats, so it's probably worth the $10 or so for a rotary cutter.
