Jim's family photo = absolutely wonderful
I was going to say the same thing. In cursive. So he would think his oldest son had found the boards.
And dude, Jim, based on photographs alone -- as I have yet to deign to say hello to you and yours in the flesh, for I am high and mighty like that, and also nervous -- you look a bit like a younger version of a

I had my freshman year. He was more into God than beer, though.

Yep. Also, Tolkien. But the Christ-loving part of Tolkien.

This latter project, if I get to it, will take me into issues surrounding contemporary realism and anti-realism.
Beer also allows me to access both realism and anti-realism.

Greg I heart you. How do you feel about older men with baggage? Baggage stuffed full of children?

I'm cool with it. When you show up, though, my roommate might get apprehensive, as I plan on marking your arrival with a warning-shout of: "WATCH OUT! THEY'RE KOREAN!"

they started doing some 'Theology on Tap' program at Legends (bar/restaurant on campus) at notre dame after we graduated blucas. i think the idea was to sit around, drink some brews and talk to theology professors or priests. yet another example of how notre dame waited until we graduated to make everything cooler.

The "University" in Quincy is a Franciscan one, and its friary is reputed to have the largest collection of alcohol in the city. I don't know whether that is true or not, but I do know that I have partied with about half of the faculty of the philosophy and theology departments there.

There are two bars right down my street. One is the turf of the episcopal seminary, the other is claimed by the presbyterian seminary.

Looks like I just found my academic niche!
Philosophy of religion is a bit of a degenerating field. Our head of department, John Bishop, is one, and one of our new appointees has some work in the field published as well. The Uni of Auckland is becoming a little bit of a center of PoReligion, with two PhD students on the subject. Incidently, they are both Muslim, and an influx of analytically trained Muslim philosophers of religion might give the field a bit of a kick.
Edit: sorry, I didn't mean to imply that our HoD and the other phil of religion people are dragging the department down. Just, you know, the field as a whole is not in good shape, and outside of the old bastions at Oxbridge and Notre Dame, there are very few places where you can find actual dialogue on the topic, and Auckland is becoming one of them.

There is a ton of potentiality in historical religious philosophy in Islam. I'm a junior
mutakallim
myself (secret decoder ring and everything). Too bad Muslim theology is dying just as surely as Christian.

The one PhD student, Imran Haijiz, is as sharp a fellow as I have ever seen, and is really on top of his epistemology as well, a credit to our department. John recently had a book on phil of religion published in OUP's flagship philosophy series, and he's had Cambridge publish work of his in philosophy of action (what used to be his main field), so there's a reason a few phil of religion folk are coming here.
There was a large influx of atheist philosophers of religion with the rise of logical positivism, and they either didn't really energise debate or helped drag the field down.

Oh, Laura. Don't you realize that I'm praying even harder for people to die as you're praying to prevent death? And given that about 160,000 people die each day, I think it's safe to say that the supernatural holds me in much higher regard than you.
you're like that kid in the Twilight Zone that could make anything happen just by thinking it.

I once read a story in a book called The Science Fiction Hall of Fame that was just like that. I bet that's where the TZ producers got the idea.

It's a Jerome Bixby story. Don't even get me started on the TZ. My favorite show of all time, for sure (Twin Peaks is a close second).

Because everyone loves babies and pets in costume:
My nephew in his Halloween costume. He's a bumblebee.
Me and my cat Georgia in her Halloween costume. She's a bandit.
