I'm in complete agreement with John, though Streethawk & Rubies are constantly competing for the top spot.

Ok so what did the right answer end up being wrt best album besides Rubies?  I got Rubies based solely on the strength of recs here (plus once I saw Destroyer live and Dan was so drunk he fell over an amp and somebody said "who let the drunk on stage" and Dan looked up into the rafters and said something like "I can't help but feel....those comments...were directed...at me" which was the only thing he said all evening) and now I want to go further down the rabbit hole.  I am hearing Streethawk?

I forgot to mention that they were opening for the new pornographers, and that whenever Dan came out even the booze was not enough to disguise what I gathered to be a pretty extreme hatred for the rest of the band, in particular Newman.  Which is not altogether surprising (certainly not as surprising to me as his membership in the NPs in the first place, now having familiarized myself with some Destroyer material).

I had no idea that This Night was so disliked - it's probably my personal favorite record of Dan's, though Streethawk is inarguably his finest moment as a songwriter and record-maker.
