I listened to the first few tracks on the album and liked itok then got to Japan and stopped listening. The post got me to go listen again and I still like it if I just ignore a few of the songs in the middle.
But I mean, look at their names! Their mom probably drives an SUV!

my point about that is "who gives a shit," and my followup is "really? good luck with that authenticity fallacy"

Is this that band that sounds like Joanna Newsom recorded a trip-hop soundtrack for
The Little Mermaid
?

You know what other great artist was an asshole whose work often irritated and chafed before its treasures were willing to reveal themselves? All of them. Some of you I shouldn't have to be telling this to. Seriously.
SERIOUSLY.

Ha, I would never actually hold the SUV thing against anyone. Or I would, but that's not the point. It's just that I enjoy the album in spite of a lot of musical trends I'd rather would disappear, so it's hard to praise it without a good dose of hateration on the side. And they make that pretty easy.

my point was more like this: i can't do anything about my mom driving an suv. and just because she does so doesn't mean i like it. so to me, it just seems like the kind of wisecrack that doesn't really actually say anything. "dude, i'll bet your parents live in the suburbs!" "um, yeah, don't yours too?" see what i mean?
i do agree that cocorosie are easy to pick on. but hey, they either make good records or they don't. everything else is irrelevant.

I guess, I think their first record predates the overrated Ms Newsom by about three years

so... the new album is the best place to start with them? they didn't have in in stock at Sound Fix, just older stuff. but I'll get them to order it if that's the one. I heard a couple of things on their site and wanna hear more, SUVs or no SUVs.
also, FFF: that goes w/o saying my friend.

same producer on some of their stuff as I understand it. Liking the production style isn't the same as being able to tolerate Bjork's wretched pixie diva garbage, or her culling of who's "hot" in dance/electronic about 14 months after the sell-by date - half of her shit is like a "here's what you missed" for folks who don't wanna actually listen to dance stuff
hey, you started it

they seem to be mining very similar retarded pixie schticks to me, but i dunno. i'll give the album a couple spins and see if the crucial differences reveal themselves.
but then i like bjork alright, so being bjorky doesnt really bother me.

Not that I think the two have anything to do with each other musically, but Milk-Eyed Mender and the first CocoRosie came out the same year, and JN's first two EP's were out in 2002 when she first did the Will Oldham tour that got her noticed initially.

This is some bullshit. Why do you do this all the time? It doesn't make you pithy or cool, just annoying.

blucas, you're fighting the good fight, but i have to admit that i think the whole archly dismissive method of engaging (read: pretending to engage) with art is so widespread, and rewarded in so many venues, that it'll take a lot more than just the population of one message board to get dudes to chill with it. it makes me sad, but i've learned to just ignore it for the most part.

Oh ok, we're being self-righteous, I get it. I totally forgot that I'm supposed to be reverential of anything you're into and avoid any description that you may possibly take as having a negative implication. My bad.
Let me try again:
"Is this the band that is awesome and profound and groundbreaking and defiant of any nonlaudatory description by virtue of ye' objective declarants of quality deeming it so?"
In other news: kiss my ass, prick.

jesus christ, man. you opened up the floor for this kind of talk, remember? you posted something pretentious and dismissive. and like i said above, i know that probably gets you praise in other circles, where being more jaded than thou is seen as a positive attribute, but around here people are going to try and take you down a peg whenever you talk like that, because it's bullshit and it constitutes a complete refusal to actually engage with the work under discussion. maybe i shouldn't have phrased it to blucas, maybe i should have just said it to you, but fuck it, i'm doing that right now, so better late than never, huh?

So, I don't like Cocorosie. I've tried to listen to them, but the only track that I liked at all was that one with Antony on the chorus, and "Rainbow Warriors" annoys me so much that I'm actually incapable of listening to it all the way through.
I do like Björk. I like Björk enough that I'm bothering with the umlaut.
