Yeah, that was some bullshit.  We'll see how it plays out, though.

Also there sure aren't many good new shows this season.

Yeah!  I should continue my rewatch of that.  The gf is out of town and I caught up on Weeds, and somewhat ill-advisedly watched "Californicaton" which is pretty stupid, but not quite as bad as I was expected, so there's that.

I saw a few recent episodes of Weeds yesterday and was rather intrigued. All of the non-Nancy subplots are pretty boring, though.

OK, so that was a little harsh, it's just that the two shows are SO similar in tone.  But "Journeyman" is pretty OK, mainly because it has a good cast, and Vorenius is good at furrowing his brow.  But the concept is just so half-baked/ripped-off-from-a-certain-book, and I can already tell they're not going to ever do anything with the longer story arc.  The "who will he help this week?" thing is gonna get old fast.

Almost all the new shows are pretty mediocre.  The best one by a large margin is Chuck, and even it's just good in a goofy-fun way.

Yeah, they lost me for a while, but it's gotten a lot better now that they dropped that absurd married to a DEA agent plotline.

Journeyman reminds me a little of Quantum Leap, but obviously not nearly as good.

Well yeah, it doesn't have the goofy spirit of Quantum Leap.  Part of its problem is taking itself too seriously.  And it reminds me MORE of "The Time Traveler's Wife," which is not a compliment.

I've never seen that (or heard of it, for that matter) either.  What are you, some kind of pop culture GOD?

It's a super-famous book that's soon to be a super-famous movie.

I'm so happy that I'm not the only one who didn't like that book!

So I am watching SNL right now, thinking Seth Rogen has to be able to save it and he can't. I therefore nominate coldforge to find Lorne Michaels with a capsule of cyanide. Then Blucas will ascend and assemble the writer's room, where we will all meet and eat many, many treats cooked by GregNog.

Our first order of business:  A Gilbert and Sullivan parody.  Topical!

But yeah, this episode of SNL is pretty goddamn bad.  I blame the writers, 100%, since the actors are almost always funny in other things.

I'd be happy to cook whatever peeps wanna eat!

I saw the first eight episodes of 30 Rock today.  Even putting my joy at their "lemonparty" reference aside, I liked it very much.  I wish they'd stay more firmly in barely-believeable-reality territory than total unreal wackiness, but for the most part, it's very well-done.

I know this isn't an adjective that has a lot of positive connotations attached to it, but I mean the very highest praise when I say that Tina Fey is totally Capable in that show.  She's a fantastic straight woman for Tracy Morgan and Alec Baldwin to play off of.

I actually had to pause the DVD because I was laughing too hard when Tracy admits that he steals dogs.

Also 30 Rock is one of the few shows on television that knows how to use a guest star well.
