no, doctor bob, you should move to new york, where life is a never-ending deadly struggle between cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists, fraught always with tension and the ever-lingering threat of imminent handgun violence

Yeah, Doctor Bob, move here!  We can make these streets safer for cyclists!  You do the transport thing you do and I will headbutt vehicles one by one until everyone submits!  Or until I have no bones left to break!

One at a time, boys, one at a time!  I've yet to crack bi-location.

I've lived in NYC before (3 months in early 2001), when life was a never-ending struggle between coffee, art and jazz, fraught always with... No, not fraught at all.  Never cycled, though.

Jim,
Just because I'm a policy wonk for a living doesn't mean I don't feel your pain, and there have been plenty of times when headbutting seemed like the best way to get the message across.  Maybe we should get a tandem?  Two beardies coming head first at a culprit?  We could even practice so that the pillion rider can jump while the other one stays upright- it'l be like a cross between Falling Down, Tron and Rollerball.  We'll have it sorted in no time!

come back to NYC, dr. b!  I have a spare bike.  also, I find whacking the offending vehicle with a fist or, in desperate situations, a kryptonite lock chain, scares the crap out of drivers.  cars are very resonant.  I try to reserve that move for when life and limb are endangered, though.

Ha!  Every time I go back to the Index there's another post in this thread with exotic sounding locations such as 'Baltimore'.

Anyone else want to pitch for a slot on the Doctor Bob itinerary?  I suppose a road trip is the only way to get to the ever-lengthening list of suggested places.

Or here's another thought- you all should come visit me!  Maybe not at the same time, but... hell, why not at the same time?

Joking aside, there's a visit to NYC planned for the new year.  Watch this space...

I know the thread has been retired, but as Freddy's adding then I might as well too.  Just to say Omaha (home of The Bruces- author{s} of my favourite shower singing song, 'Killer') and NZ (where my Dublin friend Karen now lives again too) have been noted.
