That thing at the beginning of last week's Office with the DVD box on the screen had me in stitches.

I remember thinking "Musings" was sweet when it aired... but I don't know, it's also kind of a little over-the-top.  They make him a little *too* powerful.  I mean, for someone who covertly controls the world he sure fucks up a lot.

I just rewatched "Musings" this weekend. You're wrong dude. One, the episode is sweet. Two, the whole thing is half-fantasy, based on the Raul Bloodsworth Frohike read in that cheeseball magazine; it's unclear whether Bloodsworth is indeed Cancer Man, or 3/4 Cancer Man, or what. Three, the thing is an extended Forrest Gump parody, hence:

"Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is an empty box filled with useless, brown paper wrappers."

Also, CSM fucking controlled the Rodney King trials, the downfall of the Buffalo Bills, the appointment of Clarence Thomas, and 1980 winter Olympics. How awesome is that? Hilarious.

Yeah, the Buffalo Bills bit had me loling.  It's unclear how much of it is a joke, sure, but we're definitely supposed to believe he killed JFK, MLK, and that EBE.  The man does not like acronyms.  I dunno, I liked it fine, especially on the heels of "The Field Where I Died," I just don't think it should be up there with "Bruckman" or "Jose Chungs" or  "Bad Blood" (which I re-watched out-of-order and is even better than I remember).  Hell, I'm even a bigger fan of "Small Potatoes," which is just a few later.

Plus:  Goddamn it, not the fucking bees again.

edit:

Also:  Hannah/anyone, have you hit up Supernatural at all?  It's a cheesy show, but it's more well-done than almost anyone gives it credit for.  I mention it here because it's basically "The X-Files II."  Complete with Vancouver and Kim Manners.  Jensen Eckles is delightful, and you've got to appreciate the Zeppelin/AC/DC-laden soundtrack in today's television world of All-Peter-Bjorn-and-John-All-The-Time.

Wait, there was a Homicide/X-Files crossover ep?  How do I not remember this?  I mean, I know it's one of the "Mulder and Scully are off filming the movie" episodes, but still!

[deleted and retyped because I briefly confused Supernatural with the show about Superman, whatever that one is called, I am very tired]

I have never watched Supernatural because some of the commercials scare the shit out of me.

I have some friends who breakdance back in Milwaukee, for real.  They are serious about it, and they're really damn good.

WHO ARE THEY AND WHY DON'T I KNOW THEM

Blucas, dude, "Small Potatoes" is my favorite episode. I love all the ones Darin Morgan wrote, of course, but I think I've probably watched "Small Potatoes" the most. I'm sure you know this, but did you know that, in addition to Eddie Van Blundht, Darin Morgan also played the Flukeman? Kind of like Chris Owens with CSM/Spender/Great Mutato.

I hate Dean. Tho if I found him or Mr. Eckles more attractive, I'd probably watch it. As is, no go.

I don't think it goes over to Homicide at all, really it was just Munch guesting on an episode of X-Files, which was weird because the shows were on different networks, and are so different in tone.

And how can you hate Dean?  He's hilarious!  Especially since some point early in season 2 where I think Eckles just decided "I'm not taking this seriously at all anymore" and just hams it up.  I brought it up it, though, because "Tall Tales" is a loooooot like "Bad Blood," and the arcs of their MOTW episodes are very "X-Files."  Just with more classic rock and homoeroticism.

Anyway, though.  I'm supposed to watch the movie after Season 5, right?  Should I bother rewatching the movie?  I really couldn't care less about the mytharc at this point.

haha no, no Smallville love here.  Though I am always sad that Allison Mack and Michael Rosenbaum are stuck on that crappy show.  I guess they added Supergirl this season, too, and there's no way that's making things better.

Yeah, it's just an X-Files episode. "Unusual Suspects" I think, although I might be making that up.

Um, if you're going to jam on Homicide now (I think season 6 is still worth watching, myself, although some don't. Season 7 is for completists only. Which is me), then you don't need to see the movie.

Ah, OK, it's confusing because Eckles' character is named Dean.  Yeah, Darling Sammy is annoying, which is why the aforementioned hamminess is so awesome.  Eckles spends almost every scene in Season 2 mocking him.

Back in the day I was all about Mulder and Scully hooking up, but now knowing how it goes down (vaguely, once I went to college I only watched the show sporadically), I'm dreading it.  I'm thinking I will watch the movie, and even soldier on through the Robert Patrick era, just because I haven't seen a lot of those episodes.

Ok, so maybe it is dumb, but I still love the shit out of that show.

It definitely has more than it's share of cheesy CW drama, and there are a couple characters that I want to stab every time they are on screen but I guess I am just a big Superman nerd.  A lot of the episodes are just one-off, somebody got infected with kryptonite and has a new power crap, but the show does spend a good amount of time exploring the Superman mythology and does a pretty respectable job with it.  I have to say I get kind of excited every time they bring in a new Superman Bad guy or other DC superhero. Its kinda cool that Terrence Stamp, Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder have all had recurring guest roles. It's fun to watch Clark Kent grow up and become Superman even if you have to put up with some silliness.

I don't think I am going to convert anybody here but it definitely is a guilty pleasure of mine.  I've yet to see season 6 but the first disk is near the top of my Netflix queue right now.

One thing about Sling & Arrows, though: the kid that plays Hamlet? No good, in or out of character. And of course they have to draw attention to how good he supposedly is, over and over again.
