I think when all is said and done, Bodie is my favorite character.

I was saying that last night.  He is basically the best dude ever.  I mean it sucks that he shot his friend, but that is about it.

All of the Season One scenes of him with the two cops (I am terrible at names - sorry!) were amazing.  The best comedy of the season came out of that relationship.

Herc and Carver. Or if you want to show off, Thomas "Herc" Hauk and Ellis Carver.

haha oh man, the scene where he runs into Herc and Carver at the movies is one of the best in the series.

I need to start my rewatch again.  The gf got too mad to watch it after they killed Wallace.

Sorry, I thought that was in season 1.  It doesn't really have anything to do with anything, though, it's just funny.

And I have season four set for delivery in a couple weeks! I may have to rewatch as runup to that. I just finished watching Veronica Mars as runup to season three to that (which should get here any day now).

No, I meant the Wallace bit.  Maybe spoiler text that out in case someone hasn't seen the Wire Season 1

So. New Joss Whedon TV show coming up. With Eliza Dushku. Are we talking about that yet?

she said "deets" in that article
no person over the age of sixteen should be allowed to say "deets," ever
and that is all that  I have to say about that
oh wait, who the fuck is Eliza Dushku

OH.
...this is the part where I admit that I did not get past more than three episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Every time someone picks a particular episode to show me I can get into it, but I tried watching it on my own and only got like a couple episodes in before giving up. And I even skipped the first season, as was recommended to me. AND I liked Firefly.

Obviously that was a challenge to LPTJ to try again to get me into it!

I stopped watching it because it was too much of a pain in the ass to get from the library. And I remember being deeply amused by the first season, what with the mid-90s hair and overalls because overalls were for some reason a fashion thing then and Sarah Michelle Gellar looking pretty healthy and normal and not like death.

Well, if others have tried, I probably won't have any original suggestions.  Most of my favorite episodes require you to know what's going on; so it's tough to go that route.  Maybe try "Angel" first as a backdoor route?  It's much more Firefly-like than Buffy.

I think Angel's the better show (although not by enough to warrant arguing). It may be a better way in, especially for people who are resistant to shows about teenagers, although for me, I never really bothered distinguishing too strongly between the shows. It's all Buffy to me.

Part of the deal, though, is watching enough to care about the characters. And, much as season one is not Buffy in her full Buffyness, that season two premiere is so much awesomer after seeing season one than it would be otherwise. I don't know if I would like it much, seeing it cold.

I think really I just don't understand why I don't like Buffy. I have no problem with "teen shows"! I watched Veronica Mars! I needed very little nudging to watch Friday Night Lights! What am I missing?

Well, although I think it's *better* than both those shows, it's not nearly as tightly plotted as either of them (or Firefly).  It's much fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants/make-shit-up-as-you-go-along.  Also the early seasons are very very very '90s and certain things haven't aged as well as others (the early-season Buffyspeak especially, given its co-optation by dozens of lesser shows).

That's why I was saying you might like Angel.  It's much more deliberate than Buffy, especially once you get past Season 1, which has a few monster-of-the-week clunkers.

If I think David Boreanaz is a steaming pile of boring, would I still like Angel? (Background: I was a big Buffy fan back ins, haven't made it through Firefly yet, etc.) Don't care to italicize; I mean Angel-the-show.

Possibly, I mean, the show has a great supporting cast.  Also Borenaz really comes into his own as the show goes on.  Also why the fuck haven't you watched Firefly, that's just silly.

If I were judging him just based off "Buffy" and "Bones," I'd be bored by Borenaz too, but he is really is great on "Angel."  Especially when they let him play up the komedy.

Also, hannah, did you see Fox set an honest-to-God release date for X-Files 2?  And it's going to be a "standalone thriller" ie NO BEES!
