tis true.
Last night, however, Fast Food Nation was not.
But I'm watching Old Joy again tonight. I suspect that might be.

So I saw Southland Tales last night, and I'm not sure what I think about it. It was kind of awesomely spectacular, it was pretty long, and it had the Rock. That's all I know for certain.
Did I like it? Was it well-made? I'm seriously undecided on this; it might have been a gigantic pile of crap, or it might have been absolutely extraordinary. I thought quietly and solitudinously turning it over in my head last night would help, but I'm no closer to an opinion on it. Maybe I should see it again? Huh.

Just got back from seeing
Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten
. I was going to see it this weekend but I happened to read that it was only playing until tonight about an hour before the second to last showing, so I dropped what I was doing and got myself to E St just in time. The movie was spectacular. Maybe it's because I'm still sort of reeling from the whole thing, having just gotten back, but I'm tempted to say "one of the best music films I've ever seen," and I might actually mean it. It's just a really beautiful portrait of him, incredibly moving, and the only real missteps were the goofy/inexplicable interviews with John Cusack and Johnny Depp, which prompted some giggles every time they appeared on screen. Still, one of the best films I've seen all year. I would go run and vehemently recommend it to everyone I know were this not the last night it was playing in town.

Superstar

I'm getting ready to watch
Cannibal Holocaust
(on my laptop where nobody else can see especially my kids but not my wife either) and I'm having second thoughts. Is this movie going to fuck me up but good?

There's a warning message at the beginning of the DVD that's pretty fucked up, made me think twice. Fuck it though it's just a movie.

Although the whole point of the movie is that it's not!

Free screening of Yojimbo at the film archive last night. Afterwards I turned to Col and said, wow, its so a western,eh? And he said, um, I've never seen a western, except for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when I was six.
I almost had a hernia. Never Seen A Western.
At least it gives me an opportunity to rewatch all the Sergio Leone's.

Every time I see an ad for "Love in the Time of Cholera" I spend the first 20 seconds thinking, "This
No Country for Old Men
trailer is really misleading."
I think I'm just try to block out the fact that that adaptation exists. I guess it was inevitable after teh Oprahattack, but still.

No Country For Old Men
exceeded expectations, which were extremely high to begin with. the Coens are back to form like they had on
Blood Simple
. it's easily the best and most intense movie I've seen in a long time.

Not another word about this from anyone without spoiler text, please! I haven't looked forward to a movie as much as I'm looking forward to this in years!

No harm done! I just don't want to even know it's good or whatever. Please, please spoiler everything about it for now. (or at least head the post with the movie title so I'll stop reading) Thanks!

That fucking movie. Jesus. The part at the beginning with the tribesman punishing the woman for adultery by raping her with a sharp rock is fucking heinous.

I saw Nightwatch the other night. My reaction to it could best be described as "meh." It wasn't bad, and I think I might want to watch it again to see if I was just in the wrong mood for it, but I just didn't enjoy it that much. I was more interested in my knitting.

Goddammit why does every film I want to see have to be in limited release. I've been waiting months for Southland Tales, and I probably won't even get to see it in a theater. And the release of No Country for Old Men got pushed back a week at our little indie theater here.

Here too! It opens Wednesday!!!! FUCKING HELL. The only pro is that the theater has a beer/wine bar. So I can be drunk when I see dude use that cattle air gun thing. That's exciting!

Wait, so in apparently in Beowulf
he decides not to kill Grendel's mother and has sex with her instead. Also apparently she has feet with built-in high-heeled shoes.
