I don't think it's random if you netflixed it 3 weeks ago, made some popcorn, painted your nails and made a cosmo in preparation.

New favorite drink:
Cointreau with a couple splashes of margarita mix. We only had super-sheap tequila, and the margairta mix was the only availabe mixer.

When I was in Milwaukee I had this approximate conversation with Lucy:
Lucy: (says something about a thing I said on the board once)
Me: I don't remember saying that! Was I drinking when I posted that?
Lucy: What kind of question is that?
Lucy makes a good point.

So all the shitty liquor stores around here have inexplicably decided to start carrying all the New Belgium varities. Maybe there was a sale from a distributor? We're talking places that normally only carry Miller and below, and
maybe
some Modelo. Weird. Anyway, the moral of the story is that the New Belgium Winter Seasonal (The 2 Below) is way way way better than the Goose Island Winter Seasonal.

2 below is really nice this year. Oddly enough, i find it to be tastieer straight out of hte bottle rather than when i pour it into a proper glass.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised, since I could take or leave Fat Tire. I like their wheat beer, but I'm a sucker for almost any wheat beer.
Chicagoans, though, that Goose Island Xmas Ale is some foul shit this year. Good for weatherstripping your windows, maybe. It took me
four days
to drink a 12-pack, which is pretty damning, if you didn't know.
xpost here's to starting at 1 on a Mon/Tues!

Somehow, I ran out of Jameson. I've come up with a modified Irish Coffee using
another whiskey
. Normally, I drink this one neat. That's actually the better choice and if I manage to finish this, that's what I'll have next.

That seems like it would be great in an Irish coffee.
The only whiskey I have in the house is a jug of
Ten High
my neighbor/childhood friend left here. She insists on it and it's sooooo gross. Even for me. I mean, if you're going to go dirt cheap, at least go BV.

It's really good, but Jameson is sweeter.

Whenever Jameson is unavailable I invariably quote McNulty: "That's Protestant whiskey!"

I guess people go ape over new belgium around here because you can't get it anywhere, which I've noticed. I've never been a big fan, but some of their random beers are actually pretty tasty. It's always really expensive, though, so if I'm going to spend that much, its usually on something I'll actually enjoy

I heard on the radio this morning Bell's is coming back to chicago with 3 new beers created specifically for the Chicago market. I haven't actually had Bell's, but I understand this is good news.

Yeah they've basically rebranded a few of their beers to get around the distribution restrictions. If I understand things correctly. Yes it is a good thing, though my favorite beers of theirs will still not be available. But hopefully it's a step on the way to better things.

The bar I went to last night had Gottberg Princess of Darkness Porter! From the brewpub in my hometown! It warmed my heart. And then I drank a couple pints and it warmed my belly. And then I drank a couple pints of Hopluia to ensure a quality night. I love 2.50 Nebraska beer night.
Also, the bartender didn't even bother charging me for my tacos.

i tried a sam adam's triple bock last night, from 1997. i never knew sam adams had shit going on behind their major sellers. i just learned about this whole utopia thing too. it's a little gimmicky, but like, these are intense beers.
and also this dude had some homebrew that used 3lbs of hops in 5 gallons. i plan on brewing some beer as soon as it's more practical.

Saranac 12 Beers of Winter last night. The Caramel Porter is obscene. The Scotch Ale is like American Rice and I am Japanese.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Sometimes it's fun to gang up on a beer and take out all of your rage on it.
