because hey, why not.
i wanted to show off how stupid talented the bastards i work with are. last night we kind of decided to make a song on a whim. so, we had dude whip one up, and we recorded the whole bitch in some hours, with sean playing all the parts.
this [was] the result. i did a little quick and dirty gain increase to listen on my laptop with a plugin in amadeus so it lost a little headroom, but it sounds ok on the powerbook speakers.
but yeah, this shit is insane. basically dry mix. eventually this will be on a website with some pictures and shit.
edit: fuck it. that sounded like shit. i put up the raw one.

it sounds ok. it'll sound great once it's mixed, and fucking awesome if it gets mastered.
all the vocals were redone with different mics too since that (you can tell they're hella dark,) plus other junk. basically what i put up was super rough.

So was this meant to evolve into the "music: random" thread? Because if so, I just put on Robert Pollard's
Coast to Coast CoL
album--still not growing on me, alas--and noticed that my CD player reads it as
Peep Show
. Not that interesting, but certainly random, and I like its previously-intended title a lot more than the existing one.

The Ronettes - Paradise goes exceptionally well with Panda Bear - Take Pills, if I made mix CDs/tapes, this transition would definitely go on one. There is this tiny little repeating guitar figure throughout both, and although the songs overall rhythms/paces are different, it just seems to fit nicely.

Stylus R.I.P.
Generally I found them a little on the snarky side, but they did turn me on to a couple of great albums. Also, I like that they published their top 50 albums of the year in October (well, it was their last day).

Well, what a strange list! There are a lot of releases there I've never heard of, a top ten almost full of records I thought were really boring, a number one I never even realised had come out, no sign at all of wonderful records from Animal Collective, Ricardo Villalobos, Black Dice, Fiery Furnaces, Meg Baird or Thee Stranded Horse, and a paltry 5 albums which would be in my own top 50:
44. Colleen - Les Ondes Silencieuses
40. Pantha Du Prince - This Bliss
33. Stars Of The Lid - And The Refinement Of Their Decline
31. Menomena - Friend and Foe
25. Battles - Mirrored
13. Gui Boratto - Chromophobia
03. Panda Bear - Person Pitch
Well, takes all sorts I suppose.
edit ; to acknowledge my hilarious inability to count beyond four

Actually, for me it's right up there. I'm not going to defend it (it's Nashville country, and therefore awful by definition) but I really like that album a lot.

so if I get out of work in time, I'm going to swing by the record store and get a hold steady album in anticipation of the art brut/hold steady concert later this month. I know nothing of the hold steady. which album should I start with? the most recent?

nah, i'd say start with their second album, "separation sunday". it's the best of the three if you ask me.

Get
Boys & Girls in America
. It'll be the best primer for them live. The others are fabulous in their own right, but, yeah...do that one first.
edit: to x-post with Andrew. I love, love, love that album, but as a primer for a live set, I think the most recent is the way to go

I'm with Andrew.
Separation Sunday
.
dKT is probably technically correct as to primers-for-them-live goes, but
Separation Sunday
's their best album.

The opening riff from
Stevie Nix
(from Separation Sunday) is one of my all-time favorite riffs
They can be pretty tough to get used to though
