I mean, I'm all about "see 'em while they're alive so you don't regret it", b

Not me, even a little bit. I'm more of a "see 'em when you build a time machine" type

That flyer is outstanding, Grace! I wish I could be there to see you!  Heart

You should have been! because it was fucking awesome, they sounded so so good, and incredibly at the same time very different from the recordings I'd heard previously. Grace's musical partner in crime is top bloke, and whilst I didn't get speak much with the rest of the band they were friendly and all phenomenal musicians   Grace was bloody superb. So proud.

I went and saw Dylan semi-alone last year (my friend got our tickets while I was out of town at different times) and it was a relatively dispiriting experience. His voice is pretty blown, which is okay for the new songs that he's written around his voice, but if you don't know that stuff, and the older stuff that you will recognize will be largely disappointing if you care about "original melodies" or things like that, and you don't have a posse to enjoy it with, then ...

I mean, I'm all about "see 'em while they're alive so you don't regret it", but I definitely don't think it will change your life. On the other hand, you should definitely pick up MODERN TIMES, LOVE AND THEFT, and TIME OUT OF MIND regardless.

This is pretty accurate. I saw him a few months ago and it was pretty godawful. I almost fell asleep a few times and by the end I was wishing I would have.

Goin' to see the Retribution Gospel Choir record release show tonight.   For some reason I keep expecting this band to be righteous sludge metal, but I'll settle for Low with a little more rocking.

i just saw the price of the tickets. it's through the roof. i'm definitely not going. not only is bob dylan playing in the near future, but also eric clapton and john fogerty. i wish some fresh hot bands at their peak would come here and play and not all those old hounds. i might go see Low though. DJ Premier played about a week ago, i kinda regret not going.

Ah, thank you - it was a grand time, despite the surreal start to the night, which saw us taking a drastically wrong turn on the express motorway, driving through mountains in the pouring rain, and ending up 100 km away from the venue. But, once we got there, everything was sweet. The sound guy was very patient and on the ball. They let us play for 40 minutes, we didn't noticeably fuck up, and there were people there, both friends and regulars who'd showed up for the club. I couldn't see shit past the stage lights but I'm told that people got drawn in. I spent the rest of the night (and, apparently, most of our set) looking like this:  Very Happy

Next gig is in three weeks' time at another town near Modena and, before that, we're recording our EP and once that is done, I'm hoping we can get lots more gigs because, seriously, playing music with this band for other people is something I would like to do lots more of in future.

bob dylan is coming. probably my only chance in life to see him in concert. it'll probably be really expensive. and i don't know any of his post mid-70s material. and none of my friends like bob dylan, not even my dad so i'll probably have to go alone which is weird. so i don't know if i'm gonna go.
Waste of time and money.  MASSIVE waste of time and money.  I saw him once and it was painful, not because his voice is blown but because he transparently does not give a shit.

So there seems to be consensus on Dylan, any word on Lou Reed these days?

I was gonna say "he's still good!", but then I looked at my ticket stub, and it turns out all I can tell you is he was still good in 1996.

A little ways in the future, but Richard and Alan Bishop are doing a Charles Gocher memorial/Sun City Girls tribute tour.

phosphorescent and bon iver tonight. i had not heard of bon iver, but apparently he's a pretty big deal because this thing's sold out and now i'm pretty bummed i'm missing phosphorescent. a quick search indicates that that bon iver record made pitchfork's 07 list.

goddamned pitchfork hype. i need to get my head outta my ass i think.

Nice! that's the impression I got, too. Lou Reed, rock n roll toad acrobat.
I'm just not really interested in some watered-down version of Sweet Jane or anything.

I'm going to the Atlanta Springsteen show on the 25th of April.  I'm pretty stoked, but I've only ever been to one or two other super-huge stadium shows.  One of them was Bon Jovi, and I won tickets from the radio so I had like 7th row seats...

I will not be that close to the E Street Band...

I've got a busy week here. Tonight I saw Darren Keen, tomorrow night I'm probably going to see the Felice Brothers and McCarthy Trenching, Friday night I have to choose between Headlights, Jens Lekman, and Simon Joyner, Sunday is Kaki King.
