"I've had a couple really good experiences here, but once I went on a Monday and it wasn't as good. The main chef and main mgr weren't there. The experience was different. First no plates, then no silverware, then no wine. That sort of thing. The food was still very good though. Pig's trotters= yum!"

I hope everyone's holiday is going to be as splendid as mine has been already. Headed up north yesterday, been hangin with the fam, eating, drinking, being merry. I love this time of year!

i would be down for a name change of Thanksgiving to "Thursday"

edit: oh, and since my dad broke his leg and can't leave the house we are not going anywhere.  My mom bought a dinner for us from Whole Foods, since she works there.  We've had them before other years, and they're yummy.   I'm excited to try Pecan pie... i have never had it before.   Also, I go ape shit for sparkling apple cider.

I'm at my sister's house now.  Made almond roca last night, will be making leslie's Cowboy Mashed Potatoes this morning.

Thanksgiving is a holiday I enjoy.  It's like everything I like about Christmas, minus all the Christmassy stuff that I hate.

We just put the pie in the oven. We'll leave for my cousin's as soon as it is reasonably done. I am hoping my uncle and Jacob get into a fight.

Milesofsparks is eating way-too-hot brussels sprouts out of the pan and complaining that the sauce hasn't reduced to a glaze.  Coldforge is playing a tiny toy accordion and talking about Russian with silentsigh.  Silentsigh is talking about Beowulf and making nice with coldforge.  It's like drunk family Thanksgiving, only calmer and happier.  Coldforge brought mead, which is fantastic.  And now he's talking about how awesomely Jewish he is.

Happy Thanksgiving from a lurker!  Drink up!

the balls are going in the oil.  repeat--the balls are going in the hot boiling oil.  also, I think we're out of wine.  things are going well.

I'd really kinda like to be in NYC right about now.

That said, I can't complain about tonight's culinary offerings either - while I'm no American and thus don't partake in the Thanksgiving tradition, I did go out with the family for dinner tonight (in celebration of my recent, soon-to-be-official graduation) and had a rather wonderful meal. I had beef broth with pancake stripes (umm, this sounds odd to you, right? it's not), deer with chestnuts and grapes in a really tasty sauce, served with steamed broccoli and potato fritters, and then praliné mousse with rum plums and orange sauce. All of it was quite excellent. Plus I got really nice warm socks, some gloves, a t-shirt and one of my favourite chocolate bars as a graduation presentation. So perhaps being in Vienna tonight was not so bad after all.

Hope everyone who is celebrating Thanksgiving is having a good one! I'm back home after spending all afternoon with my immediate family at our family friends' house. These are pretty much like second parents to me, so it's like seeing extended family but without the hassle of travel and, well, family. Am pretty stuffed on lots of excellent food, thanks in part to the urging of various Jewish grandmothers, and am now sitting here, just shy of a post-prandial coma, cat sleeping in my lap, relaxing. Good stuff.

Sad news about my grandmother, though. It doesn't look like she'll make it until Christmas. I guess she's fading pretty quickly, and even the staff at the nursing home think she'll die soon. I probably should have gone to see her instead of helping my mom. Hopefully I'll have the chance in the next couple of days. Otherwise, it was a really nice day. Great food, and I love spending time with my family.

edit: I just got off the phone with my mom, who went to see my grandmother (without me (?!)) and said she does seem tired, but she's not in pain and she's still alert. I mean, there's no way to know how much time anyone has left, but she's more optimistic than my uncle.

I wish to issue a correction: Ausdemfenster is not high as fuck. She is merely drunk, giggling helplessly at arbitrary turns of phrase, and snacking ravenously.

Oh my god, the food was so good.  And delicious blueberry wine from Kentucky of all places after the meal.  Yummers.
