The kid down the hall.

Him: Yeah, I'm excited. I celebrate Hannukah and Christmas. It's nice.
Me: Oh yeah that's cool. So what'd you get for the first day of Chanukah
Him: Oh, just a thousand dollars.

(wtf ensues)

Did you kill them and take their money?

Don't kill them! That eliminates the possibility of more money.
No, kill them.  Trust me.  It's better than money.

Ha I really might have to kill him. For his birthday last year, he got a Rolls Royce. 's nuts

Every time I set up port forwarding I'm like, "now let me make sure I remember how to do this for next time because this was really annoying" and then I immediately forget.

Super annoying: studying for law school exams for which you are drastically under-prepared. Actually, it's worse than annoying; it kind of feels like I'm constantly marching toward impending doom. Whose bright idea was it to base your grade for an entire semester's worth of work on one long exam?

Holy shit do I hear that!

Man, so, Jeff Tweedy is playing a solo show in January at the Vic.  I want to see it fucking BAD.  But you know what?  It's $100/ticket.

Fuck, man.  That's janky.

you heard about wilco's 5-day stand at the vic right?

on the annoying front, is there some special rule today that turns the bike lane into the SUV lane?  And who the fuck drives a Suburban in the fucking city anyway?

Pfft. Probably Jeff Tweedy, off the backs of the fans!

I keed.  But, yeah, I'd like to see them at the vic, too.  But preferably on a day where they ignore their last two albums.

The other day I heard on the radio that "SUVs are mainly driven in cities." It made me want to stab something.

Right now I am so bored, and in an awful bleak way which feels like it could go on forever. I can't think of anything I want to do, anything that is going to properly distract me. For the last few days I was working again on my book, but the thought of doing it now depresses me cos it's a depressing topic and anyway I don't want to think intellectually right now. Fuuuuuck this is stupid. If it isn't better by tomorrow I shall have to summon the energy to be very annoyed *sigh*

I had to scrape my car windows 3 times yesterday. And I haven't gone outside yet today, but There's probably at least another quarter inch of ice on them now. Also, the streets are icy enough that driving uphill is no easy feat. Fuck off, winter.

Everything, including the Milwaukee Public Schools which never ever close, is closed today. There is an ICE STORM WARNING OR SOMETHING.
UW-Milwaukee is not holding daytime classes.
So it follows that the place on campus where I have an appointment at 11:30 is open.

I was going to go grocery shopping today but the forecast is "freezing rain/icy roads" so I think I'll stay at home and drink more hot chocolate.

calling to reschedule your appointment seems more than reasonable to me. i would think they'd allow it under these circumstances even if they wouldn't normally.

I would reschedule, but I really just need to do this. Plus the place is so busy that if I rescheduled it would be another few weeks before they could fit me in. Plus it is not really cold at this point, just messy. Plus, having grown up here and all, I don't think I actually have a license to complain because I am supposed to be a HARDY MIDWESTERNER and such and able to live on my wits in the wilderness if so required.

The college in Quincy that I attended is a Franciscan University with the friary attached to the main building.  The rule for canceling classes was that classes would be canceled if the monks could not make it to the classrooms.  Again, they lived in a friary which was attached to the main building.

Anyway it's kind of warm this morning.  I mean, wet, nasty, slushy and sludgy, but not below freezing.  My ride to work was almost pleasant, if it weren't for the fact that I was up until 3 in the morning working on a client's server and only stopped 'cause I was physically unable to continue, so I took a 3 hour nap then got up again and worked on it for a while then got on my bike and rode in to work.  I might pass out on my desk today.

Hey Jim you may have mentioned this elsewhere but I was always curious: how far away is work from home? What I mean by that is: I can walk for miles and miles and miles without getting tired, but a mile on a bike KILLS me so you are my hero.

It's about 7.5 or 8 miles.  Which "serious" cyclists are always quick to remind me is hardly even a warmup much less a good ride.

Also annoying me this week: violent assholes at beer tastings.

Man, I hear that.  The nail on my left pinky is really small now because I did that when I was a kid.
