My computer at work gave me the blue screen of death today.  Our tech guy set me up on a different machine, I work all morning, go out to lunch, come back and get ready to get back to it.  However, the machine has gone on standby, I can't unlock it 'cause I don't have the password, tech guy is MIA and I think I should just go the hell home.  I am currently working from my coworker's computer, but I can't access my company mail, voicemail, etc from here.  Lame.

Can't you just turn it off and then turn it back on?

Nah, ours are like that too.  It'll automatically go to the stand-by/ctl-alt-dlt screen.

Mine? tried that, didn't do the trick.  Chuck (tech guy) told me to leave it and he'd get to it.  The other system I'd need a password to log in if I restarted.

Yeah, that's what I mean.  Once you do the whole ctl-alt-dlt bit, it takes you to a screen that requires a password.

The ones we have at work do that too, but if you just turn it off and then back on, it just restarts. Whatever, Chuck's on it!

what's a thread for not necessarily annoying, but deeply troubling and disspiriting?

i've changed my thyroid medicines recently, and then changed back because it made my blood pressure too low.  but it was the chance remark of this new compounding pharmacist that the lower they keep your TSH (marker of how your body sees its thyroid levels) the less antibodies you produce.  which kind of made me make the connection that the times when i feel like my body's under attack, like today, might just be triggered when i go hypo (which is probably pretty often) so now i feel really slow and sluggish, and on top of that i feel like my immune system is doing something, and i just noticed i have a rash on the side of my neck.  apparently my body doesn't think its advisable to live in december.  gah.  if i still had my thyroid - this would probably trigger some other kind of hyperthyroid attack, but that would be much preferable to whats going on right now.

ugghh.  I have to go to a Xmas party thrown by people I don't like.

Well at least I'll get to drink a bunch of their alcohol.  The invite says something about "house cocktails" though, so I'm worried there won't be beer.  They're that kind of people.  On the plus side, if there *is* beer, it will probably be fancy beer.

yeah, I mean, worst case scenario you get a bunch of free cocktails.  best case scenario you get a bunch of free beer.  Not a bad situation

Maybe they'll be less annoying once you're drunk.

No, I'm just less liable to be nice to them, which is also a problem.  Plus it's snowing and I really don't want to go anywhere.

ugghh.  I have to go to a Xmas party thrown by people I don't like.

There were like three different office-related "parties" on Friday, which was a large part of why I called in sick.

I am annoyed by the endless lounge-jazz versions of "Jingle Bells".

Low's Christmas album is about the only Christmas music that doesn't make me want to stab people. There were also a couple of dub Christmas songs that they played on the reggae show on NPR last night that were pretty okay.

Our Christmas party began at 10am this morning? I found out at ten past while I was still over the road getting breakfast. It was OK. I know less and less people each year so I talked for a little bit with the PhD student who was nice enough to let me know it was happening, then attempted to disappear into the coat stand. Fortunately nobody noticed when I slipped out 10 minutes later so, sure, I'm in favour of Monday morning Xmas parties, I guess.
