oh hey, greg, tonight i was talking to one of the book clubs that meet at my store, and tried describing achewood to them. none of them had heard of it but one guy said, "i haven't seen that, but i do like webcomics. i just discovered this one the other day about a guy who's a host at an olive garden. it was really funny." i was all "OMG i know that guy!"
so yeah, i'm hearing about your comics from random people now. pretty sweet, huh?

The thread's growing, but we might as well finish this page. I was gonna put this in the news thread, but it really isn't news.

As the link implies, it's a guide for multiplication on fingers. And it's kind of awesome.

I couldn't work out whether to put this in the Sad thread, or the Angry thread, or the News thread, so it's here by default.

i should probably just go back up on my ssri, but i'm determined to see if there's not another way to trick my brain into feeling good.
Have you heard of and/or tried SAM-e (S-adenosylmethionine)? It's made out of a reaction between the amino acid methione and ATP, and it's in your body naturally but can be given as a supplement for depression (and joint pain). It seems to boost the levels of neurotransmitters including serotonin and dopamine and increase receptors, and because it's already in your body, it causes fewer side effects than ssris and can be used in conjunction with them. Didn't do shit for me (but then I've never responded to serotonin-boosting drugs), but a lot of people seem to find it helpful. I'd give it a shot. And I'd also definitely try Omega-3s if you haven't, especially since they are so good for cardiac health and we diabetics have to be careful on that front. I take them even though I never saw an effect on my mood, just for that, but you need a much bigger dose if you are trying for an anti-depressant effect.

i saw a diabetes educator recently and one of the first question she asked me was "who'd you get it from, who else in your family has type 1 diabetes" and nobody does so she asked me if anyone had rheumatoid arthritis, which my grandpa did and she's like "bingo, that's where you got your diabetes from. all the autoimmune diseases like diabetes, graves disease (which i also have) and RA are related". not sure if that's true or not, but it makes sense.
I have no relatives with T1 either, but a first cousin with graves. Seems like the current theory is though that a lot of people have the genetic susceptibility but it's only triggered in a few, and that's where maybe the cow's milk thing or a viral trigger comes in. There's a also a guy studying the possibility that the reason modern society has much higher rates of immune-based problems is because these days, we're all de-wormed. Maybe we'll all be taking worm pills in the future.

no i hadn't heard of sam-e, but i will be looking into that. re: the worm thing - the people on the graves thread i intermittently read have been talking about H-DAC inhibitors (i'll have to look up the whole word) as a way of treating immune overreaction and have mentioned butyrate. i thought i read some post where it mentioned worm poop as a source of butyrate. maybe i'm hallucinating, but i'll have to go back and try to find what the deal is.
we had a dome that looked just like that on the notre dame campus. i had to take all my chemistry tests there freshman year, and had to tromp all the way across campus early in the morning to get there. i think most people hated it, and i think they may have since torn it down. i don't know if it was a true bucky dome, or just some weird 70s relic.

Today at work some lady called in from a store in Kentucky because credit cards weren't working there and they didn't have a button on their registers for a free orange juice coupon, but before I could troubleshoot anything we talked about football for 10 minutes. Shit was kinda weird, but I like it better when people don't care that their shit is broken.

The idea that someone could have read my comics but not achewood just boggles my mind.

"Ha ha, ladies PLEASE, it's boxers on the ODD days, briefs on the EVENS. But let's not make this all about ME, it looks like blucas has something to say. Let's all be modest and talk about blucas for a while."
