The opening act, Dear Astronaut play the sort of tender, heavy strumming and eerie acoustic songs that often explode into a mire of tunelessly tuneful self-hatred and made Eric Gaffney's side of Sebadoh in the late 80s so great.

that review actually makes all of the bands on the show sound really interesting. i've vaguely heard of the homostupids and know nothing about the rest, but now i want to check them out.

I feel bad that they didnt write up Masonry or Head on Electric, as they are, I think, the most interesting bands on the bill. Though I've never heard Homostupids and they do sound awesome from the way they're described.

Wellp, tonight's opening went off without a hitch. I have kind of mixed feelings about it because on one hand, everything worked and the general reception was good (at least until the performance began...) but on the other hand, as usual with shows, it was non-stop crisis right up until the opening. It was nice to get a chance to jam out as The Druids Of The Holy Inevitable And Trees Of Mystery, but it was also a reminder that I always end up feeling like the weakest link whenever I play out with people because after three wasted years of piano learning to play shit by rote, I also learned absolutely zero about playing music. And with the visual portion of my education taking up so much time, I haven't had any time to work on music so I'm kind of out of practice. Plus, I've got work at 10 tomorrow, and I started my day feeling like a shit because I overslept because I spent last night puking (thanks, Kashi!) so on one hand, I did have a pretty successful show and the work looked good, etc. But on the other, there was so much bullshit surrounding today that I didn't really get a big chance to enjoy it.

Dude who went to my high school was at the bike store when I went in to get an ETA for the trainer I ordered.  Not only was my trainer not available, but no one had called to tell me.  However, he sold me the floor model of a trainer that they had in the store that was $100 cheaper than the one I ordered, better, quieter, and he gave me an extra 10% off because it was the floor model.  So it was like I walked in there and he gave me $100.

This technically may be more meant for the thread about shows or the photography thread.  However, I'm happy that I got me a new Canon Digital Elph.  And Jeb (and Frank, for that matter) are happy that the show last night went well.  So here is a picture of Dear Astronaut playing last night:
