Man, just when you thought Chris Carter was already the king of questionable casting decisions, he goes and one-ups himself.

Also this prompted me to watch the video for "X" for the first time since it came out.  hahaha oh man.

Wasn't there a music video where he wears a "FUCK NAPSTER" tshirt, too?

If true, that is beyond awesome. But i've heard this so often since they mentioned it in the DVD commentary of season 3

I read something somewhere that made it sound pretty darn definite.  On E! or TV Guide maybe.  I'll look for a link.

I've been hesitating for a long time, because I know I'll find no quarter here.  But seriously guys, now that I've been rewatching it (thanks, writers' strike!), I'm even more confident in my assertion that Everwood is the greatest television family drama of all-time.  When I have kids they are so being forced to watch this.

edit:  Which is funny, because unlike other people, everything else Berlanti has touched makes me want to punch things.

I remember the last time you said that I tried to find the first series to download, and all I could find were a few shitty image versions of Tvlinks. So, I was thus unable to find out whether you were yanking our collective chains or not. If you know where I can download some, let us know, because from tomorrow I'll have internets at home..oh sweet series 5 of the wire here I come.

Well, Season 5 of The Wire is still something miles above the caliber of anything else I'd talk about here.  But you can get Everwood at tvtorrents.  You probably have an account; if not pm me and I can toss you an invite.

Also, let me throw this out there, in Everwood's defense:

It's a by-the-numbers Waltons/Full House-style Family Drama, but plotlines during the first season include:

1) Transgendered youth.
2) Atheism.
3) A teen girl contracting gonorrhea of the throat.
4) Dostoevsky-level, no-punches-pulled father/son conflict.
5) Death death death, so much death.

And it only gets emboldened from there.

Four things I have always been fully in favour of.

I may have mentioned this before, but a friend of mine had been all about Everwood at one point; I laughed at her, because Seriously?  Everwood?  Right, I'm sure it's great, ha ha.

A few months later, I was idly flipping through channels, and somehow started watching this teen drama that was unusually compelling.  It took about ten minutes, until the next commercial break, before I realized I'd been watching Everwood.  So there we are.  In a blind test, Everwood is well-made enough to hold my interest.  Which is no small feat for something that doesn't feature dinosaurs.

I watched Everwood on and off. I thought it slightly annoying that the babysitter/baby mama was named Madison, which isn't historically accurate. But later there was a character named Hannah, so I forgave them for everything.

Last night I found out that the new AMC series, Breaking Bad, was created by my second favorite X-Files writer of all time, Vince Gilligan. His and Darin Morgan's episodes are pretty much the only ones I rewatch nowadays. Also, I do have a soft spot for Malcolm in the Middle, at least the early seasons, so I tuned in for Bryan Cranston, too. The show, which is about a dying chemistry teacher turned meth maker, is slow moving but pretty good -- somehow avoids the curse of quirkiness and also the lame suburbia laughs I found so irritating on Weeds. A million stars!!

yeah, you kind of remind me of that hannah.  without, you know, the religious stuff.

And yeah, that Madison plotline in the second season caused me to stop watching it for most of season 3, which is kind of why I'm rewatching.

I keep meaning to give "Breaking Bad" a chance.  Now I shall!

Later with Jools Holland looks promising tonight for the UK folks (maybe others can watch this on the BBC online iplayer?)

Supergrass return to the studio to showcase songs from their forthcoming album Diamond Hoo Ha, while New York-based indie band Vampire Weekend play tracks from their eponymous debut. Singer-songwriter Devon Sproule and lo-fi rock duo the Kills will also be in the studio, and former Amen Corner vocalist Andy Fairweather Low teams up with influential British jazz trombonist Chris Barber and his 11-piece band. Plus, jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves chats and performs.

I have a soft spot for The Kills, especially No Wow (righ, Andrew!?!) - it will be interesting to see what they're doing this time.

I have launched torrents for the first 8 eps of the Wire, and with hesitation queued up the first ten of FNL series 2, then hopefully Everwood. I do not think I'll be having much of a socail life for the next few weeks. What should be next? What have I missed?

Quarterlife Canceled After One Episode

oh yes bitches

also they were reporting on the bus TVs (!) that it had the worst ratings for NBC in something like 30 years.

Also I obviously missed the US vs UK Office discussion but I am watching the third US season right now and I think it is pretty close to perfect, and poor Toby makes my heart hurt.

I'm rewatching Father Ted. As much as I love it, I wish somebody could make good sitcoms as fast as I could watch them. There's only so many times I can go through Peep Show, Trailer Park Boys, Arrested Development, etc. before it starts to get a little stale.

Never fear, othermike!

Quote
I’m not typically moved to comment on the daily goings on via the Hollywood newswire, but when I saw a Reuters story headlined “ABC in Talks for More Jim” that did in fact turn out to be a discussion about making MORE of the Jim Belushi sitcom, According to Jim, I was indeed baffled.

In last night’s overnights According to Jim averaged 4.63 million and a 1.4/3 in the 18-49 demo (where it tied with the CW’s One Tree Hill).  I’ll grant that it’s up against American Idol, but these are really lousy numbers for a broadcast network.  For the hour Big Brother averaged more than 2 million more viewers than Jim and a 2.6/6 in the demo. It’s not an apples to apples comparison because Jim went head-to-head against American Idol for all 30 minutes while Big Brother suffered that fate only from 9p-9:30p.  Still, the numbers for Jim stink.  I don’t understand what ABC is thinking.

I get that it’s tough to compete with American Idol, but if NCIS can pull 11 million plus viewers with a rerun and The Biggest Loser can average over 8 million from 8p-10p, shouldn’t the Mouse be thinking about doing…something else?  If “hey, it beat the snot out of Quarterlife” is how programming decisions are going to be made…I want in on that!
