Holy shit, why did I not hear about this until the spinoff movie came out? I think I know how I'm going to spend my post-Wire television time.

I always thought the series was a spinoff of the movie, not the other way around.

I love Toby.  However, I gotta love Pam's sweet boundary setting with him--don't you have a daughter?

Have you made it through season 3 yet?

I wholeheartedly recommend Breaking Bad! The third episode, in particular!

Just started the third season of Slings & Arrows.

I got the last disc this afternoon (I was netflixing it but I want to watch it nowwwwwwwwwwwww) and today's plans involve it and laundry. I remember you specifically telling me that 1. Pam is awesome and 2. the episode where they are on the beach or whatever is extra awesome in terms of Pam being awesome so I am really, really excited to see this. And I love her. You were right.

re: the office, I'm downloading series 4 at home right now, and have both feet in Milly's camp of prefering the american version to the english version, the latter being a tad to cruel in it's caricatures, and the former having a far sweeter romance at it's core.

Does anyone here watch Brotherhood? I think I've asked this before, but I think I'll give series two a chance soonish given that the first series was a pretty smart and effective irish lesser version of the sopranoes and the wire.

What? It is. Those folks are too pathetic to hurt anyone, I'm not that amused by mocking people into little pieces.

I don't really see that as being the main point of the show, though. Or I mean, at least that's not why I'm interested in it.

It's probably not what they're trying to do, but it's how its always come off to me, and that's always kinda ruined my enjoyment of it.

I haven't seen the American Office, so I have no right to this opinion, but one of the reasons I don't want to watch it is because the love story in the British version is pretty much the best love story ever, and one that I don't believe the American studio system has the subtlety to carry off. I guess it depends what you mean by "sweeter", though - the British story is so beautiful because it's saccharine-free for most of the series.

Hey, I downloaded that, so it's in the queue.

I have season five of The Wire to hit up first, starting tonight, but I should be able to catch an episode or two by the weekend or early next week.

The american version is really good. I came at it skeptically as well, but they really handle the relationship thing better than almost any sitcom I've seen.

Yeah, I have no defense, everyone says it's good. But there's enough other good stuff out there for me to defer that without any lack of stuff to watch.

I figure, like, ten years from now I'll relent and I'll be all, "hey, guys, know what's awesome? The American Office!

I'm pretty OK with that.

Yeah, I feel you on this.  I'm also very concerned about NBC's milking-it-for-all-it's-worth, sprint-for-syndication policy.  I have a sinking feeling that in 5 years this show won't be very well-remembered.

I LOVE the American Office.  I was also a fan of the BBC original.  But seasons two and three of the US Office were awesome.  I agree, though, season 4 felt a little sprint-for-syndication for my taste.  I think that they replaced a lot of the wit and quirk with just straight up over-the-topness.  This coming from someone whose favorite episode were The Injury (when Michael grilled his foot and Dwight had a head injury) and Safety Training (when Michael planned to jump from the top of the building onto a moonbounce).  The only ep this season I liked at all was the last one before the strike (The Deposition--Michael is asked to testify on Jan's behalf for a wrongful termination suit).  And that was because the straight up discomfort.  I hope they get their act together for those post-strike episodes.

Oh!  Damn.  Yeah, I forgot about that. Shit.  I'm going to need to re-watch this show with, like, a chart on the wall reminding me of this shit.
