dude I was totally at that, and had to go because of a Creative Writing class.  Who did you have?  I had the same impression of her "reading"

matthew benedict was my creative writing teacher.  that was actually a good semester to have to go authors talks - i ended up seeing annie proulx later that semester i think

i guessed you missed this discussion in music random music?

I stayed up for Later last night because Robyn Hitchcock was on and he was okay, but I'm slightly alarmed at how much I hated every other band on there. Mary J.Blige left me cold and Radiohead were merely irritating, but Feist and Cat Power were on a whole new planet of badness. I need to stay away from all of these people's music forever.

Pretty much.  Ben Silverman said as much in that Radar interview.

Also this season isn't going to get finished even if that vote ends the strike today; they already announced the S2 DVD.

That sucks. I mean if we were juding on se.2 alone, I'd say it deserved to get canceled, but it showed such damn potential in the first. Too bad.

Well, and it really sucks that the final episode is probably going to be like, a random midseason episode.

so wait, they never finished filming season two because of the strike, so they're just leaving everything hanging? that's way stupid.

Okay, if FNL gets cancelled, can there at least be a spin-off focused solely on Eric and Tami (and maybe Gracie if she is seen only in that pink sleeping bag/jacket she had on at the game last night)?

You're thinking of Kitchen Nightmares, which is an amazing show that's 100 times better than Hell's Kitchen.  Gordon Ramsey's ma man crush.

Hey, thanks for reminding me that I'm still four (it looks like) episodes behind on FNL.

First season was awesome awesome, but I gotta say that the first 11 episode of season two weren't really a a show worth saving. I mean, I'd like to see them given a chance to get it back and all, but if season two was where it was going (and most of the suck looked like the result of network notes, and that's never a good sign), I'm not that choked up about it.

But yes, an Eric and Tami spinoff would be fun. As long as Buddy Garrity gets to play the wacky neighbour.

The Corner came in the mail today, but I don't think I have it in me right now. What TV program should I queue up instead? When is the third season of BSG coming out? Should I watch the fifth season of Homicide or will I just be really disappointed? How is the second season of Slings and Arrows? Etc.

If you watch the second season of Slings & Arrows, please report back. I liked season one, but in retrospect it didn't really stick with me, else I probably would've already seen se.2.

And as I recall Homicide definitely starts falling off in se. 5, but it's still worth a viewing.

I think I'll go with Homicide and see how long I can take it. I love it so much and am not ready to give up whoever is left.

And I felt pretty much the same way about Slings & Arrows, but I may give it another chance because it looks like Don McKellar returns and eventually Sarah Polley shows up.

I mean it was definitely good, but I think all those cries of "BEST SERIES EVER" that I kept hearing on NPR were just the mewlings of English majors who have generally felt left out of this whole television game

I don't think you'll be disappointed yet in season five of Homicide. I think that in fact it slips a little each year after season three, but season five is still very good, and I think season six is still decent (although it won't stand up to the early seasons). Season seven is the only actually bad year.

Quote
In the third year of the Writers Guild deal, writers will be paid a percentage of the distributor’s revenue rather than the flat fee for Web-streamed television shows granted to the directors. The writers had insisted on this issue to ensure they not lose out on any new-media windfall the studios and networks may get from Web video. The producers yielded on this point — and the directors did not push it —arguing that Internet distribution is unlikely to become a significant business during the length of these contracts.
