Don't worry, Brian. Besides, nitpickers will note that the show itself has been inconsistent about Cheese's relationship to Prop Joe.

Watching the second episode of Breaking Bad right now. It's certainly got something interesting going on.

It's fucking awful. Which is terrible 'cause I loved Captain Jack in Who.

i have to watch kid shows ... on nickelodian. dude, i love spongebob.
the newest one..where he tries to be normal...and so he puts a computer and desk in the kitchen where he usually fries crabby patties..and he prints them out, and constantly types at a 'steady and monotonous' pace, just sitting back there, like...at a cubicle. and he slowly changes from a sponge and into this fat gleaming yellow thing with puffy cheeks..who says things like 'wonderful weather we're having'...instead of his normal craze.

From what I've seen, it seems like a less glamorous and more desperate version of Weeds.

Weeds
being less glamorous and more desperate sounds really good to me, actually

Desperate is certainly the right word. I'm not sure if anyone bar a DEA agent has cracked a genuine smile yet. It's kinda relentless in that way, which I approve of. The score is particularly striking, every scraping chair, every plate smashed, every hiss seems to underpin the cancer crawling through the main character. After four episides some of the secondary characters are begining to come into focus, but the main man (malcolm in the middle's dad) is really getting under my skin and slowly living up to the title of a good man breaking bad.

The third episode totally wrecked me. Absolutely nerve-wracking. Then it just gets bleaker. It's not quite "there" yet -- i.e., its inconsistency is tone feels a little like it still is finding its sea legs and not like a deliberate artistic choice (though who cares?), and sometimes it hits its notes a little too hard -- but most of the time its pretty intense and great. Relentless, definitely.

One last thing (for now)... the first episode plays like a comedy, or at least starts like a comedy -- like
Raising Arizona
or some other Coens bros. -- but as the show progresses it becomes more and more disturbing, even tragic. In that way it mirrors the main character's physical (and moral) deterioration.

Despite myself, I really wanted
Rami to win. Some of thoses pieces were just so beautiful. Even though his personality reminds me of Tim Robbins's character in High Fidelity--all passive aggressive and faux new agey. Christian is "fierce," but his designs are practically misogynistic. I defy you to find anyone but Victoria Beckham who would wear them.

Yep, as of right now, it is (no spoilers for ep. 10 - I take it that's what you mean by "safe")

I finished episode 3 last night, so I should be all set to read 20 pages of LPTJ critical commentary next week.

You know, I wanted him to win for a bit too, but then I realized
that I hate him so much that I couldn't let him win. I think Christian's designs are stunning visuals, that he could EASILY dumb down for consumers (think the challenge with Chris), the high fashion is totally for Vic Beck and madonna videos. And Jillian I thought would have such a different line. I was almost bored by hers!
