This story is funny to me, and if that makes me a douche, then so be it.  I mean, the part where the guy calls him a fascist pig CRACKED ME UP

yeah those two are idiots for sure

but

people rely on public transportation and it ain't fucking up to him

True, but I do think there are more important things to fight for than the right to shock norms on public transport.

Senator Reid promises to fuck with it so bush won't sign it
(not that I mind his proposed additions, I just really hope the senate doesn't fuck this up)
(also Max Baucus is getting big time)

If you look at some of the people who ride on buses it's kind of an insult to not be let on.

ehh, i don't know. i can see the argument of "ok, put the leash away to ride on the bus", but i'd be willing to bet that the dude would kick them off anyway even if they did do that. bottom line--the bus driver's being an asshole, and he's unjustly preventing people from using mass transit. he should get written up or even fired.

also, on the stimulus package topic--rebates are such bullshit. SUCH bullshit. it's just money that you'd otherwise get in your tax refund at the end of the year, first of all, and second of all, with the government as broke as it is, we really shouldn't be giving what little money it has away. really, what bush should do is cut taxes for the working class so that people's paychecks are a bit bigger, rather than giving them all of that money at once so that they go buy a tv or something but end up needing $20 to pay the power bill in three months and have to eat ramen all week. fucking stupid crap.

Because the bus driver was unimpressed by an obvious attention-seeking stunt, he'll be universally mean to them?

It's hard for me to get up in arms about the persecution of goth kids considering most of them are from split level suburban ranch homes and have an older brother at like Dartmouth or something

To be fair, these are unemployed council-estate goths. In England you don't need to pay import duty for the culture.

nah, because once he's kicked them off once, he'll probably do it again. i agree that if they'd just stowed the chain the first time, they'd be fine, but now, he's gonna be keeping an eye out for them.

Quote
Boom-bust processes usually revolve around credit and always involve a bias or misconception. This is usually a failure to recognise a reflexive, circular connection between the willingness to lend and the value of the collateral. Ease of credit generates demand that pushes up the value of property, which in turn increases the amount of credit available. A bubble starts when people buy houses in the expectation that they can refinance their mortgages at a profit. The recent US housing boom is a case in point.

wow. that's such an obvious point, but i have never noticed it before now.

also, if soros is right, we are so fucked.

EDIT:

Quote
Every time the credit expansion ran into trouble the financial authorities intervened, injecting liquidity and finding other ways to stimulate the economy. That created a system of asymmetric incentives also known as moral hazard, which encouraged ever greater credit expansion. The system was so successful that people came to believe in what former US president Ronald Reagan called the magic of the marketplace and I call market fundamentalism. Fundamentalists believe that markets tend towards equilibrium and the common interest is best served by allowing participants to pursue their self-interest. It is an obvious misconception, because it was the intervention of the authorities that prevented financial markets from breaking down, not the markets themselves. Nevertheless, market fundamentalism emerged as the dominant ideology in the 1980s, when financial markets started to become globalised and the US started to run a current account deficit.

ho shit, droppin SCIENCE!

this article is explaining to me multiple truths that i knew, but never knew i knew. it's blowing my mind.

Didn't the article say that the driver had in fact refused to allow them on the bus on several occasions? Pretty sure ...

Also, man, GI's take on this one is fucking gross.
