Also, not only linking to the girl's myspace page, but splattering pictues of her from it all over the news is fucking sickening.
This is done solely as like the journalistic equivalent of cat-calling or whatever the term is, so that every guy who reads the story can think, 'hell yeah, I would tap that too if I had 5000 dollars'.

Also, some large lending/capital groups (hilariously including Carlyle Capital, subsidiary of conspiracy theory bogeyman The Carlyle Group [!]) are facing margin calls that they haven't the liquidity to meet.
Carlyle Capital is now insolvent.  Their assets are being seized by their lenders.

Now it seems like the new fad in business reporting is to tick off the milestones in the collapse of our economy / financial system: Oil passes $110 / barrel, Gold passes $1000 / oz, Yen passes 100 / dollar, Swiss Franc nears dollar parity, Euro passes 1.5 / dollar.

Yeah, but what kind of sex is worth $5000 anyway? What does she do, peg him? Let him double-fist her? Morph into a 12 year-old Croatian boy?

Sadly, this is the question that I've heard asked the most.

Shapeshifting is the least I'd expect from a $5,000 call girl.  Flight, telekinesis and alchemy capabilities, too.

Because the problem behind all this was too much government regulation, right?

If you rewind a year, I was making falsifiable predictions about the imminent collapse of the housing market and its potential effect on the severely credit position of the US financial sector.*  Meanwhile Ron Paul was talking about...oh, I don't know, the desperate need for the US to return to the Gold Standard I would guess.  It's a case of a (you're right) loon fitting the data to his theories, and not the other way round.  Everything becomes in some way or another proof for the fact that he's been right all along.

Just because you Paulites don't have the vaguest notion of macroeconomics or basic principles of currency doesn't mean that the world needs to adapt itself to your 3rd grade notion of how finance works or else the sky will fall.  And while we're on the subject., the pseudo-populist stance you guys take is just annoying.  Stick to the white frat boys and the middle managers they will become.  They're your natural base, and they will take you a ways if you do right by them.

*Full disclosure: At the time, I didn't think shit was going to get this bad, I was betting on a S&L scandal-type move on the part of the Fed, in which the bust essentially just created a massive transfer of wealth to the rich as the middle-class, whose wealth is mostly tied up in their houses, are foreclosed on and appraised-down without mercy, while the Fed extends a big old handout to cushion the fall of the people responsible for the shitpile.

my problems with the credit card bill that i paid in 2001 and which collectors started coming after me for in 2004 (refusing to acknowledge that i'd already paid it) have mysteriously reappeared, and i made the mistake of calling someone back from my cellphone, after my mom notified me that they'd called my parents house. i ended up screaming at some woman for three minutes and hanging up on her. then yesterday i got a call on my cellphone that didn't show a caller id number at all. it didn't even show a number that's not in my phone--it just said "call". so i answered anyway, and a person said "mr. necci?" and butchered the pronunciation of my last name, and i immediately hung up on them. they called back and i didn't answer. i've decided this is how i will handle any bill collector calling my cellphone in the future. i am under no obligation to be the least bit respectful to these people.

especially since i paid the damn bill. 7 years ago.

Hey chief if you can pull a quote showing Paul fretting over the extremely shady and non-uniform state of mortgage broker accreditation and the over-reliance on the books of the major banks on asset-backed securities which didn't actually trade on the open market, I'll own up and give you a "my bad, bro."

On the other hand,
you obviously don't actually know what he was talking about last year.
Meanwhile Ron Paul was talking about...oh, I don't know,

I'm going to talk about prostitutes again. 5K (or, in Spitzer's case, 1.5K) gets you a hell of a lot of power and, well, discretion. I read a good assessment in, I think, the Washington Post... $5000 isn't about netting a great prostitute, it's about affirming just how wonderful (i.e., rich & powerful) the john is.

that makes a lot of sense. i've always figured that, past a couple hundred bucks, what you're really paying for doesn't have anything to do with the sex. instead, you're paying for the girl to pretend she WANTS to fuck you. which fits right in with the whole power thing, if you think about it.

maybe, maybe not. she apparently hasn't accepted any of the offers mentioned in that article.

i really feel bad for her in this whole situation. she doesn't deserve this.

This just in, Andrew_TSKS determines the monetary value of the platonic ideal of sex to be roughly $200 US Dollars.  More updates as this story develops...

Not the platonic ideal of sex. The general straight up prostitute sex.

Are you using "platonic" as in "vanilla" or "typical" there richard?
