I worked late and went home, but some peeps from school called me and I went back and hung out and drank beer and sat by the fire. Now I smell like camping. And I probably won't shower before work in less than eight hours. How hippie can I get? We'll see. We'll see.

Okay, so tonight is another Saturday night at home and as I'm the Platonic form of whitey, it's beer tasting night.

This evening started out with Dogfish's Burton Baton. As usual with Dogfish, it was interesting yet overpriced. It's a combination of oak aged strong ale and their 90 minute IPA and unfortunately, it seems to lose the strengths of both in the combination. There's a definite combination of malty, oaky, and citrus, but neither stands out particularly well.

This was followed up by New Holland's latest high gravity offering, Night Tripper. This one's another home fucking run from New Holland. You know how idiots refer to Guinness as "thick"? Yeah, this one's what they should be referring to. It's the Sabbath of beers. Gloriously heavy with malty sweetness beautifully balanced by the bite of 10.2% alcohol. Goes down like a freight train with a nice, bitter finish.

I had some spectacular beers this weekend.  I picked up an Aventius Weizen Eisbock from the beer store friday and drank it immediately upon returning home.  At 12%, it was quite possibly the smoothest high ABV beer I've yet encountered.  A perfect early spring beer. 

Then I went out at had a Surly Two, which is porter-like and chocolatey (and some folks are saying cranberry, which I can see), with a nice velvety texture on the uptake.  Unfortunately, it was a little wimpy on the aftertaste and thus leaving me less than satisfied. 

Upon finishing that I opted for a Rush Rive Unforgiven amber, which is an overhopped amber ale.  Every Rush River beer I've sampled thus far is delicious. 

And then I came home and shared a bottle of Ichtegern Old Brown with some friends.  It was yeasty and malty and ripe with carbonation. 

And now I've got some Hacker-Pschorr Dunkel Weiss in the refrigerator.

In other Surly related information, the Dahmer smoked porter is pretty badass.  A bit much, perhaps, but badass nevertheless.

Oh shit, I totally could have posted here from the venue where I saw the Weakerthans and Kaki King on Friday and it would have been at like 2 PM. They had some computers set up for "live blogging" on their website or some bullshit. I wasn't really paying attention because they also had free SoCo and nachos.

I really dropped the ball on that one. My bad dudes.
