I'm having a nip of Laphroaig right now, but earlier this week, I got to try Captain Lawrence's Bourbon-Barrel Smoke From The Oak.  It was UNBELIEVEABLY GOOD.  Possibly the best new beer I've tried within the last year.  A little bit smoky, a little bit sweet, no particularly crazy flavors, just one of those incredibly well-balanced beers that I could sip for hours.  Also goes great with cigarettes!

i've been told that one ice cube brings out the full range of flavor in a whiskey, but i don't know how much whiskey to drink per ice cube, so that i get that full range.  any ideas?
also, just so this is legitimately in the drunk thread, i am pretty drunk.

this might sound waaay iffy and i blame it on the champagne and chardonnay i've been drinking tonight for no reason if that's the case but what is with that residue that always collects at the bottom of a glass of whiskey? i drink the good stuff, gibson's finest, and it always looks like there's dandruff in there (don't look at me). should i beat my roommates for not washing the dishes better or is this natural?

Shai, don't drop an ice cube in there. Making the stuff colder will actually dull the taste. Best to just pour a finger or two into a tumbler; at that point you can put in water at your taste, even drop-by-drop. You'll notice a difference visually, not only in the change of color but also in oils starting to precipitate and shit like that.

I like cold whisky!  I like warm whisky too, so I say just go with whatever you're in the mood for.  I guess I usually have the ratio of one ice cube per finger-and-a-half of whisky.  If it's any less than that, I suppose I don't really add ice.

I also like the sound the ice makes when it clinks against the glass.

Anyway, the Samos Ouzo was okay, but a bit sweeter than I wanted.  The Aphrodite Ouzo was delicious.

THIS is amazing.

I'm drinking Inver House scotch... 12 bucks at the local... it's the best bottle of cheap whiskey I've had in ages. This and Black Velvet... man, god bless GOOD cheap whiskey. God bless.
