I am drunk, people, and having an excellent time but now I am going to bed or maybe writing an essay or making some ramen or something, I am undecided. Have a good night folks, have fun! Party on & cetera!

I played poker tonight at my friend's house.  He lives a short walk from here.  I brought over a half a bottle of Bowmore.  It is gone.

How's the Dark Horse? We've got a pretty extensive selection of their stuff here, but I've only ever tried their Scotch Ale. (Good, but a little sweet for my taste.)

It's pretty good, but it's black and thick, and more like an imperial stout than the nürnberger Schwarzbier, which are evidently more like a black lager.  A friend of mine is in Germany right now, and was going off about the black biers, which is why I picked this up in the first place.

Probably not a session beer, but a good one to have around when the snow gets deep.

Dark dark dark and tastes kinda like chocolate.  It's really tasty, but I don't think I could actually finish a pint by myself.

Hey, I'll join you (sort of). I checked the fridge, there's one Boddington's left.

Made dinner for me and the lady (ravioli with tomato sauce incl. asparagus, endives with oranges, feta, olive oil, green onions, sea salt).  Split a bottle of the Little Penguin Cab/Shiraz/merlot blend.  Watched Barton Fink.  Walked her the two blocks home.  Love life.

Hey! I also had popcorn and beer while spending most of the evening watching Twin Peaks home alone.

Mmm. Twin Peaks. Interesting idea.

I got to the part after they tell you who killed Laura and then I lost interest.

Yeah, it just barely holds itself together to that point. After that, it falls apart almost completely, but, you know, it's not entirely without its charms.

That is exactly the point at which to stop watching.

*sigh* I know. . . I was just trying to justify the way I spent my day. The owls are not what they seem.

That is exactly the point at which to stop watching.

You can't just find out who the killer is, you have to watch Leeland smash his own brains out as well. After that, it doesn't matter so much. (Though I'd say the Windom Earle plot has some fun moments--skip over all the James and Evelyn crap though)

Yes, yes, sorry, I meant "Go to the light, Leland, go to the light", with the sprinklers going strong and all. If the series ended there, there'd be no knocking it.

After that point it seems to really really turn soap opera. And while I'm not totally opposed to that as it's obvious the creators were having a lot of fun with how extreme they could get with the plot, sometimes my suspension of disbelief falters. (I mean... Catherine Martell returns in disguise, nobody notices it's OBVIOUSLY HER? You could cut that up and serve it on crackers!)

well, it was always a melodrama. but yeah, the plotlines became less interesting and far more meandering and blah blah blah

But the last episode is amazing!
And the only really annoying bit is James and Evelyn, the rest of it is at worst still really solid

new bottles tonight. A bottle of Borgogno Chinato, which is tasty, but enough of a Barolo that I'm not sure I'll be able to drink all of it before it spoils; A bottle of Amaro Ramazzotti, which my awesome waiter friend brought to the table last time I was at his restaurant, and, finally beginning the Scotch plunge (which I believe to have been tipped into by the Yamazaki), a bottle of Ardbeg. 10.

Today after work I decided, "I've gotta get drunk, I've gotta forget about some things." So I went to the dive a couple buildings down and I left there shortly after 8 and I'm pretty goshdarn warm and fuzzy.

Tonight after work I sped the van all the way across town to catch perhaps my favorite local down-home, train-hoppin' howlin'-at-the-moon, whiskey-swillin' bluegrass band and had four beers and some laughs and boy I think I'm gonna sleep ok tonight for once.
