The Motorola Devour looks kinda neat, and looks like it has a better keyboard than the Droid (which I find hard to type on), but I'm still holding out for a phone that has a good physical keyboard, the Android OS, and a Snapdragon processor.

Man I remember the days when you did not own a cell phone. A year ago, maybe.

I know!  I only got one the November before last!  Those were good times, those non-cell days.

I want a Droid pretty bad, but I haven't played around with one enough to make a judgment on the keyboard. It felt a little "off" though.

I gotta say my Nokia Surge has the best physical keyboard I've ever used on a cell phone. But it's also the weirdest phone I've ever used.

I was completely on board with the Droid until I played around with a friend's, and the keyboard kept making me add letters I hadn't meant to; the letters are right up against each other, and completely flat.  For that kind of difficulty typing, I figured I might as well just get something with a shitty onscreen keyboard instead.

I have liked my friends' Droids.  I haven't done that much typing but it was such a radical improvement over my attempts at iPhone typing.  Me trying to type on an onscreen keyboard involves a significant increase in vulgar and/or profane exclamations.

I looked into the Devour but I don't think I'd get much out of Motoblur and that seems to be the main selling point other than, hey, slightly cheaper android phone.

Turns out those friends had G1s. I got a Droid anyway, cause it was down to $110 through Amazon.

I like it a lot. I already used Google products such as Gmail and Calender and Maps and Reader and I love the easy integration. Listen going into Reader now is great, to; I may actually start listening to podcasts on the regular.

The screen is beautiful and the phone is easy to navigate and customize.

I've already got a non-Market app on it - a silly "game" coded by my brother - and I'm up to 12 contacts with unique ringtones; the goal is all of them.

I don't love the physical keyboard but I don't mind it so much. I use it almost exclusively.

I would ditch the iPhone for a Nexus One with the G1 keyboard.

Anyway I wasn't very impressed with the Nexus One soft keyboard. The iPhone's is far from perfect, but the NO's keyboard is too close to the soft keyboard on the G1. Better with the wider screen, but still felt wrong.

I know it's bad to talk on your phone while it's recharging; I did that with my previous one, and it took a clear, but incremental, toll on the battery life over the course of several months, if not years.

I did this ONCE with my current, year-old phone (and only because it was dying during what was clearly to be my final conversation with G), and it immediately went to shit: fully recharged last evening; down to 2 of 4 battery-bars without intervening use by bedtime around 3am, and then entirely dead by the time alarms were intended to ring around 9.

so, I guess my question is, what the fuck?

Lost my iPhone, this diet has been making me spaced out and I'm pretty sure it fell out of my coat pocket in a taxi, and the only data phone I could get to replace it for a decent price was a Blackberry Curve. So I'm doing that charging a new phone thing where you have to let it die and then plug it in for 10-12 hours and thinking: why in the world do you need to train a new battery, as if it were a puppy or something? Having to teach your phone to keep a charge is strange.

and my nexus one screen just died in a really strange way. it works when you restart, but it won't wake up if it times out.

NOT AWESOME.

I just upgraded from a wildly outdated Motorolla that was bare bones when I bought it four years ago to a Samsung that would have been pretty impressive four years ago. Ain't nothing on you iPhone people, but hey, I can take video now.

I still covet the iPhone, even though I have its ghetto Blackberry equivalent.

My phones battery is dying very slowly, and I'm nervous about it because my friend has the same phone as me but they don't make that kind of battery anymore so now she has a bigger battery strapped to it with ductape.

They might be lying about that, eh? My last phone I needed a replacement battery and it was under warranty, but they didn't make the battery any more because the phone was so old. Then eventually the guy was like: "they don't make the battery you need any more, but we do have one that's exactly the same but has a different name, do you think that would be okay instead?"
